Batttise Waterfall and Resort Attracting Tourists in Eastern Nepal

Panchthar : The stunning Battise Waterfall and the nearby Battise Resort in Panchthar district of eastern Nepal are quickly becoming a favorite destination for travelers.

Located in ward no. 3 of Phalgunanda Rural Municipality, just 500 meters off the Mechi Highway near Nibu Khola, the area is easily accessible. The natural beauty of the cold, cascading waterfall surrounded by lush greenery, combined with a resort built close to the site, has captivated visitors. The area also features an enjoyable trekking route, making it an ideal spot for family and group outings.

Established with an investment of around NPR 15 million by local entrepreneur Prem Nembang—who returned from foreign employment—the Battise Resort showcases the traditional Limbu culture. The resort features homestays, artistic cottages, swings, flower gardens, an organic vegetable farm, a children’s playground, and even a small zoo.

What sets this place apart is its authentic hospitality and traditional cuisine. Guests are served fresh meals prepared from organically grown produce from the resort’s own gardens, offering a unique taste of local flavor. According to Thakur Singh Nembang, the Vice-Chairperson of the rural municipality, there are ongoing developments to improve infrastructure, such as bridges, trails, and parks, with government support.

A budget of NPR 5 million has been allocated for constructing a suspension bridge, which will make access easier and enhance the waterfall viewing experience. Local youth Anish Tamang adds that once physical infrastructure is fully developed, the site could also serve as a location for music videos and films.

Phalgunanda Rural Municipality Chairperson Brijhang Angdembe stated that Battise is on track to becoming a prominent tourist hotspot in eastern Nepal. The resort, built through private investment, is not only promoting tourism but also enhancing the beauty and economy of the area. Visitors from Kathmandu, India’s Bihar state, and Taplejung are increasingly frequenting the site—many stopping by Battise on their way to the famous Pathibhara Temple.

Renuka Rai Nembang, the resort operator, mentions that tourist numbers rise seasonally, and guests often return due to the delicious food and peaceful ambiance. She encourages everyone seeking natural beauty, peace, and local flavors to visit at least once. Battise is emerging as a refreshing new tourist destination in eastern Nepal, especially popular during the warmer months for its cool and scenic environment.
